Activity-Driven Phase Transition Causes Coherent Flows of Chromatin

چکیده
We discover a new type of nonequilibrium phase transition in model chromatin dynamics, which accounts for the coherent motions that have been observed experiment. The motion is due to long-range cooperation molecular motors tethered chromatin. Cooperation occurs if each motor acts simultaneously on polymer and surrounding solvent, exerting them equal opposite forces. This drives flow solvent past polymer, turn affects orientation nearby and, drive strong enough, an active polar (``ferromagnetic'') can spontaneously form. Depending boundary conditions, either transverse flows, or sustained longitudinal oscillations waves are possible. Predicted time length scales consistent with experiments. now hand coarse-grained description dynamics reproduces directed flows seen field-theoretic be analytically coupled other features nuclear environment such as fluctuating porous boundaries, local heterogeneities distribution its activity, leading insights effects activity cell nucleus contents.

Phase Transition in Reconstituted Chromatin
By observing reconstituted chromatin by fluorescence microscopy (FM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), we found that the density of nucleosomes exhibits a bimodal profile, i.e., there is a large transition between the dense and dispersed states in reconstituted chromatin. Based on an analysis of the spatial distribution of nucleosome cores, we deduced an effective thermodynamic potential as a ...

The zero-temperature quantum phase transition (QPT) is driven by quantum fluctuations, in contrast to the more familiar finite temperature transitions driven by thermal fluctuations. This paper demonstrates our work on two kinds of QPTs in two different materials, respectively. The first work focuses on the pressure-driven antiferromagnetic QPT in pure chromium which is a model system for study...

We examine the dynamics of the electroweak phase transition in the early Universe. For Higgs masses in the range 46 < MH < 150 GeV and top quark masses less than 200 GeV, regions of symmetric and asymmetric vacuum coexist to below the critical temperature, with thermal equilibrium between the two phases maintained by fluctuations oi both phases. We propose that the transition to the asymmetric ...

Memristors are passive circuit elements which behave as resistors with memory. The recent experimental realization of a memristor has triggered interest in this concept and its possible applications. Here, we demonstrate memristive response in a thin film of Vanadium Dioxide. This behavior is driven by the insulator-to-metal phase transition typical of this oxide. We discuss several potential a...

Magnetite (Fe3O4), an archetypal transition-metal oxide, has been used for thousands of years, from lodestones in primitive compasses to a candidate material for magnetoelectronic devices. In 1939, Verwey found that bulk magnetite undergoes a transition at TV approximately 120 K from a high-temperature 'bad metal' conducting phase to a low-temperature insulating phase. He suggested that high-te...
